It Must Burn You

To see that I’m free now

Watch me walk away without looking back,

Know that I took away your privileges,

Your every right to affect me.

It must burn you.

To see that I’m happy again,

That your name rarely crosses my mind,

And nothing you say or do can hurt me anymore

That I’ve laughed without feeling broken.

It must burn you.

To still hold onto my dying heart,

Believing that it somehow beats slowly for you,

Thinking that I’d come back to get it,

That I still want what’s been tainted back.

It must burn you.
