A fellow blogger told me about this ad, and I was floored when I saw it. What an empowering ad.
A lot of girls are ashamed when they’re on their period. I am a pretty fearless one in that, since I am not ashamed of having period. And being different makes you see how the world reacts to certain things.
That’s what you get when you’re a woman, and why should you ever be ashamed?
I let my guy friends talk about their awkward morning wood whenever we hang out, and why should I shy away from informing them that, “Yeah, I’m on my period.”
Today, when I am in a group of people and they ask me why I look pale, to which I answer with, “Oh, I am on my period now,” a lot of the girls gasp. It’s as if I just curse someone. Or just expose the world of womanhood to everyone else.
The guys usually just nod, or sometimes they ask, “Does it hurt badly?”
Which isn’t anything you should be ashamed of.
And this is only one aspect of it. You should not let period shame you or hold you back.
Take going to the gym, and you feel held back because you’re on your period. Some people work out when they have their period, and it doesn’t affect them.
To some people, it might hurt more, since menstruation comes with complications and some women are unfortunately disadvantaged. But to those of you who aren’t as affected, go for it.
It’s nothing to be ashamed of, and nothing to hold you back with. It’s something that’s common, it’s every woman’s struggle, and it’s normal.
And of course, to those of you like me, who are crying during period and praying for easy death, this might be an empowerment too.
This ad is perfect. I love how bold and daring it is that it uses blood and displays the message with the word “blood.”
“No blood should hold us back.”
