A Day Without Internet

By Daniella Djiogan

The first thing I normally do when I wake up is to reach for my phone or computer which literally lies next to me as I sleep. It is always the last thing I touch before I go to bed and the first thing I touch after I wake up. It literally is the center of my world…I mean, literally.

Today, I woke up early at 11:30am, (don’t judge, I know I am not the only nocturnal being out there), and I reached out as usual for my laptop.

I entered my password, and went straight to Facebook and Yahoo. For some reason, I usually click those two at the same time. I don’t even wait for one to load…I know, I am that impatient.

I clicked and waited. Nothing happened…. suddenly I realized that there was no internet. I freaked out. For a second, it felt like the world had ended. I rushed down stairs to look at the internet router. It wasn’t working. Apparently there was some sort of problem with Time Warner Cable. Don’t ask me what, cause I obviously don’t know. All I knew was that the internet stopped working.

I waited and waited…no internet.

Couldn’t check anything. Couldn’t do anything. Counldn’t respond to any posts. It was awful. I realized just how much my life revolved around the internet. I wondered how my life would have been if I never had internet… I feel sad for the past generation.

After calming down because I clearly was freaking out, I decided to have an all day movie day.

If you ever find yourself in such a situation, movies are the best medicine, especially old nostalgic ones.

My personal fav are Indian movies such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Go Goa Gone, Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham, etc. If you are not familiar with these movies, and have a slight interest in Bollywood, I would say watch them…They’re awesome!

Anyways, after watching those movies, most of which were sad, I decided to take on comedy shows. Being that my fav comedian at the moment is Trevor Noah, the South African comedian who would be hosting the daily show on comedy central, I decided to watch his stand-ups. Best decision at that moment. The guy is just HILARIOUS! Love him. If you get a chance watch him.

It was nice to sit back and forget all my worries.

In fact this was probably the best “me” day I have had in months. No worries, no stress, nothing. Nothing but relaxation.

The internet was gone for a whole day, and the second it came back…guess what I did? Immediately reached out for my laptop to check my social media accounts.

  1. Haha!
Just the other day our router stopped working for 3 days! But thankfully I have 3G on my phone so I was ok.
I’m not a massive Bollywood film junkie because I don’t understand it but I did watch KKKG and KKHH – classics! Also I recently watched a new Bollywood film in the cinema which was so good. It had be crying and laughing and all sorts – something that only Bollywood films can get perfectly right.
Hope your internet gets sorted out soon.

  2. Haha! I’m the same way if I break the Internet: first I freak out, then I spin around in circles wondering what to do with myself, then I get all absorbed in something else and completely enjoy myself. Glad to hear you’re back online. 🙂
