A Reminder to a Broken Heart

by Devina Gunawan

Love is full of mystery. One day you find yourself head over heels, hopelessly in love with someone. The next day you find yourself doting on someone else.

Some days you believe you have found your one true soul mate. Some days you get your heart broken.

Some nights you cry in your bed, praying for healing for your broken heart and to give you strength to move on. Some nights you thank God for giving you chances to meet people you love.

I pray healing for those who have their hearts broken, comfort for those who face betrayal, and rebirth for those who have lost their hearts. As long as one knows how to love, one will survive. But we all know how hard it is to live by simple, motivational words after getting blows all over.

I can only watch from afar how people I hold dear get a touch of harsh reality and rejection from others. Unrequited love is ugly, and only a few can find the beauty in it—if there is any to admire. Them I pray some strength for. For somehow I trace unfortunate patterns in love: the good hearted ones who love wholly and sincerely are the ones who get crushed the most, and hardest.

I once thought karma would side with goodness, but I guess the world is never fair.
I once thought that all is fair in love and war, but I guess I was mistaken.

It is easy to blame it all on the world. Even I have to say, it is not fair. Then it is why I am writing this. For you, whose name I will never reveal, and only you because of how much I have watched over and loved you.

Sometimes we often forget that life is full of mysteries. Sometimes we focus too much on one thing that we abandon the other. Sometimes we forget that things happen for reasons.

Your debacle happens for something. It is done so that something else can enter your life. Something good. I truly believe that you are destined for someone better suited for you.

Perhaps today your heart is crumbled into pieces and you feel as if nothing can fix it. Perhaps today you cry a river because your eyes burn from seeing hope walk away from your side. Perhaps today you stay another sleepless night because your heartache keeps your tears flowing and your mind restive. And perhaps today will stretch into a week, a month, and even a year or more. And perhaps the pain will follow you for the rest of your life, and the memories stay vividly fresh in your mind.

But love is infinite. Love as much, give as much, and hope as much. One day you will receive what you deserve. The more you give, the more you receive.

Just because one person does not love you the way you desire, it does not mean that person does not love you with all heart. Things cannot always go your ways, and sometimes, you have to move on. Do not cry an eternity when things turn out badly. Do not regret. Rejoice over the fact that you have loved, and that you have not violated your blessings. Just because you have given your heart to someone who is not meant to receive it, means not that you cannot give it to someone who is. Forget, forgive, and start over. One day, true love will come your way.

I may not be an optimist when it comes to love, but I will pour in all my hope for yours. Love belongs to you, and nobody can take it away from you. Some people may break your heart, but the love is never taken away from you. You can love without being loved, you can love sincerely and wholeheartedly without being reciprocated. It is yours, love, and I have seen such purity in it. You love with such grace, and I salute you for it. There will be a greater love for you ahead, I pray, for the world will not let down someone as noble as you.

May you find your ways to find true love, and mend your broken heart. Sometimes, we just need to take a leap of faith. And sometimes, pain is necessary to remind us that at least we are capable to love. So never stop loving, even if it brings you heartaches. One day, you will find the beauty in yesterday’s rejection, today’s heartache, and future’s greeting to healing. And one day you will see that the love mystery is not so bad after all.
